Do you want a job that's really interesting? Well, close protection is about as interesting as you can get: high-profile employers, foreign travel and real responsibility. It's not the easiest job you could choose - not by a long way - but if you have this qualification then you will have real proof of your skills.

The City and Guilds 1903 Certificate in Close Protection course is fully endorsed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) in support of the licence to practise for Close Protection under the Private Security Act 2001. The qualification is based on the SIA?s standards and on best practice in training and assessment.

The City & Guilds Certificate in Close Protection Level 3 consists of seven units:

  • Unit 1 - Assess Levels of Threats and Risks to Principles
  • Unit 2 - Plan and Prepare to Minimise Threat and Risks to Principles
  • Unit 3 - Liaise and Communicate with Principles and Others
  • Unit 4 - Establish and Maintain Secure Environments
  • Unit 5 - Maintain the Safety and Security of Principles Whilst Mobile
  • Unit 6 - Respond to Medical Crises
  • Unit 7 - Respond to Conflict

The achievement of City & Guilds Certificate in Close Protection course will provide assurance that a bodyguard has the essential knowledge required to do their job effectively. It will be used to confirm the knowledge and understanding of existing employees enabling employers to carry out top up training where necessary. The 1903 Level 3 Certificate in Close Protection course meets part of the criteria required to gain a SIA licence.
