Delivery of Conflict Management Training

The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Award in the Delivery of Conflict Management Training is a 60 hour qualification consisting of two units of 30 hours each.

To achieve the whole qualification, a learner must successfully complete both units.

All learners must have one of the following pre-requisites:
  • a formal recognised training, learning or instruction qualification that includes facilitation skills for group management and learning
  • knowledge and working experience of the security industry and/or hospitality sector as appropriate

Unit 1: Principles and Practices of Conflict Management and Training (30 Hours)

Description of unit

This is a project-based unit. It will examine the principles and practices of conflict management and training and how they are implemented across the security and public service sectors.

Learners without prior knowledge will gain an understanding of principles and practices of effective conflict management. Learners who already have experience in the area will have the opportunity to confirm or update their knowledge.

Learners will be required to produce a project file showing how the principles and practices of conflict management and training are implemented in their workplace. Learners should use the information in the unit content together with the assessment criteria to produce the project file.

Learners who are not in a workplace where conflict management is implemented should aim to gain experience in a company that does, asking permission to base their project on this company beforehand.

This unit must be completed and the project submitted for assessment before Unit 2: Scenario based Learning and Training in Conflict Management. The information gathered by the learner will be used to produce their own scenarios for assessment in Unit 2: Scenario-based Learning and Training in Conflict Management.

This unit presents opportunities to demonstrate key skills in communication, information and communication technology, improving own learning and performance, problem solving and working with others.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this unit a learner should:
  • 1 Know about the principles and practices of conflict management and training in a specified context
  • 2 Understand how the principles of conflict management are implemented in a specified context.

Unit 2: Scenario-based Learning and Training in Conflict Management (30 Hours)

Description of unit

This is a practical unit. Learners will use all the information they have collected during the compilation of their project files for Unit 1: Principles and Practices of Conflict Management and Training to put together their scenarios for their assessment in this unit.

The use of scenarios in conflict management training is a vital part of the training and learning process. However there are many difficulties and problems that can occur if the scenarios are not carefully designed and implemented in the correct manner.

Learners will be taught how to compile scenarios, how to facilitate them and how they should be reviewed and evaluated. Learners will learn about the benefits of honest self-evaluation and self-appraisal and debriefing sessions for their trainees.

This unit presents opportunities to demonstrate key skills in communication, information and communication technology, improving own learning and performance, problem solving and working with others.

Learning outcomes
On completion of this unit a learner should:
  • 1 Be able to facilitate and deliver scenario-based learning and training in conflict management
  • 2 Be able to complete a self-assessment, group and personal debrief.
